Uber to Buy Delivery Hero for €13 Billion

Berlin is about to see one of the biggest tech deals in its history. Uber has agreed to buy Delivery Hero in a takeover offer worth €13.0 billion, according to a joint announcement from the two companies on July 16, 2026.
Under the deal, Uber will pay Delivery Hero shareholders €41.50 per share in cash, a premium of roughly 127 percent over the average share price before rumors of a deal first surfaced in May. Together, the two platforms will operate across 99 countries, with a combined gross merchandise value of $236 billion in 2025, spanning mobility, food delivery and quick commerce.
Crucially for Berlin, Uber has committed to keeping Delivery Hero's headquarters in the city and making no changes to its local workforce until at least 2029. The companies also say Uber plans to invest €2 billion in Germany through 2031, covering everything from its corporate workforce to autonomous vehicle deployments with German carmakers.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the combination would extend affordable delivery to millions more people, while Delivery Hero co-founder and CEO Niklas Östberg called it the right partnership to build on the company's strengths in local delivery and quick commerce.
In a related move, New York investment firm SSW Partners has agreed to acquire Delivery Hero's operations in 14 markets where it competes directly with Uber Eats, for about €1.4 billion. That deal depends on the Uber takeover going through.
Delivery Hero's Management and Supervisory Boards support the offer, though shareholders are being told to hold off on any action until the official offer document is published.
