Ground A Lands €9.1M for Anti-Drone Laser Tech

Berlin and Düsseldorf-based defence tech company Ground A has picked up €9.1 million in a pre-seed funding round, and it's moving fast. According to the company's press release, Ground A was only founded in January 2026, but it has already pushed its first product, the GA 1000 counter-drone system, out of the prototype stage and into testing and validation.
The GA 1000 is a mobile, software- and laser-based system built to detect, classify and track small, agile drones. It combines radar, various sensors, computer vision and proprietary AI, though the final call to fire the laser effector always stays with a human operator. With a footprint about the size of a Euro-pallet, the system is designed to be compact and deployable in a range of scenarios, and it can slot into existing air defence, command and control setups rather than working as a stand-alone box.
The funding round was led by Vsquared Ventures, with backing from Quantum Systems, GRIF, Robin Capital, ABACON, Leblon Capital and OVNI Capital, alongside a group of experienced defence and software entrepreneurs.
CEO and co-founder Tobias Brune says the team deliberately kept a low profile while focusing on the product, and sees the GA 1000 as just the start of a broader platform. Ground A is now setting up modular series production in Germany, with a further financing round planned for 2027 to scale capacity and strengthen the defence capability of Germany, NATO and allied nations.
