Berlin-based Noxtua, which calls itself Europe's Legal AI, has closed a Series C funding round of more than 100 million euros, according to a press release from the company. The bulk of the new capital comes from Germany's leading legal publisher C.H.BECK, which becomes Noxtua's majority shareholder, while Austria's leading legal publisher MANZ joins as a fresh investor.
Founded in Berlin in 2017 out of research at Oxford University and Imperial College London, Noxtua now counts more than 30,000 users, around 100 employees and six European locations, including Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Zagreb, Munich and Fribourg. Its platform covers the full legal workflow, from research to analysis to document drafting, built on curated content from major legal publishers across the continent.
The press release notes that C.H.BECK already backed Noxtua's Series B round last year, when the two launched the Beck-Noxtua Legal AI Workspace together. MANZ, whose legal publishing roots go back to 1849, is joining as a new backer and building its own MANZ-Noxtua workspace.
CEO and founder Dr. Leif-Nissen Lundbæk said the deal builds on Noxtua's position as home to Europe's largest legal database and its largest network of independent legal publishers, calling the joint backing from C.H.BECK and MANZ a strong signal to the market.
As part of the restructuring, several earlier investors, including Global Brain Corporation, KDDI Open Innovation Fund, CMS, Dentons and Dominik Schiener, are stepping back to make room for the new publisher-led strategy. Law firms CMS and Dentons will remain key clients going forward.
