Berlin fintech Moss has crossed a big milestone: investors have valued the company at one billion euros for the first time. Founder and CEO Ante Spittler shared the news with Handelsblatt ahead of official confirmation, saying the fresh 30 million euro funding round gives Moss room to invest further, especially in artificial intelligence.

Founded in 2019, Moss offers corporate credit cards and a digital platform that helps small and medium sized businesses manage spending and handle their accounting. The company has been leaning harder into AI over the past year, building AI agents that automate manual finance tasks and flag unusual spending, like an internal event that blows past company guidelines.

The round was led by Portage, the fintech focused investment arm of asset manager Sagard, with existing investor Cherry Ventures also joining in. Moss counts Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures, Tiger Global and GFC among its earlier backers.

Business is booming. Annual recurring revenue has jumped roughly twentyfold since early 2022, reaching 70 million euros, and is still growing about 65 percent a year. The company, which employs around 300 people, is active in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK, with two more European markets planned for next year.

As for what comes next, Spittler told Handelsblatt he could imagine an IPO down the line, though he's in no rush, and a sale to a strategic buyer is just as likely.
