Germany needs to retrofit millions of homes. The problem is not demand, it is delivery. Berlin startup VARM has closed a €17.5 million Series A round to prove it has cracked the execution challenge, with backing from GET Fund and ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund.
VARM insulates a single-family home in one day at a fixed price of around €5,000. After subsidies from Germany's federal economics agency BAFA, homeowners typically pay under €4,000 out of pocket, cut heating costs by up to 50%, and recoup the investment within four to seven years. That combination of speed, price certainty, and measurable savings is what has driven VARM to a 4.9-star Google rating across thousands of completed projects in seven German cities.
The funding round was co-led by GET Fund. ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund, a €500 million vehicle backed by ABN AMRO Bank, co-led alongside them. Aurum Impact, the impact investing arm of the Goldbeck Family Office, joined as a new investor, with returning backers Emerge, Pale Blue Dot, and noa also participating.
Co-founders Christian Grüner and Sebastian Würz, both serial entrepreneurs, launched VARM in Berlin in 2023. Rather than competing for scarce certified installers, VARM trains its own specialists, including career changers from adjacent trades, and runs all jobs through an AI platform that automates measurement, material calculation, and quality checks. Established trade firms can join VARM's partner network and add insulation to their offering on the same platform.
According to TFN, the new capital will fund expansion of VARM's partner program, continued platform development, and geographic growth across Europe. The company, which is B Corp-certified, is targeting one million insulated buildings across the continent by 2035.
