Berlin is doubling down on aerospace and defense. Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the State of Berlin have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a new innovation center focused on aerospace, defense, security, and dual-use technologies in the German capital.

The signing ceremony brought together Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and IAI CEO Moshe Levy, along with senior government and industry representatives, according to an IAI press release.

The planned center will run structured accelerator programs for startups, modeled on IAI's existing global initiatives in the United States, India, and Israel. The goal is to connect early-stage companies with real-world use cases, industry partners, and investors while building local production capacity and creating highly skilled jobs in Berlin.

IAI is no stranger to the German market. The company serves as prime contractor for the Arrow-3 missile defense system, which recently became operational, and supplies Heron TP drones to the German Air Force and the BlueWhale autonomous submarine to the Navy.

Wegner framed the deal as part of a broader ambition: "Our goal is to make Berlin the number one city for innovation." IAI Chairman Boaz Levy echoed that vision, pointing to the combination of industrial expertise, startup culture, and global market access that Berlin offers.

For Berlin's tech and defense ecosystem, this agreement signals a significant step toward becoming a serious European hub for aerospace innovation.
