Berlin-based AgeTech startup Amara has secured €3.7 million in a pre-seed funding round, according to information provided in a press release by IBB Ventures. The round includes participation from Econa, Caesar VC and IBB Ventures.
The company aims to make digital participation easier for older adults by removing many of the barriers often associated with modern technology. Instead of expecting users to learn complex interfaces, passwords or apps, Amara has developed a voice first approach that allows people to access messages, games, quizzes and conversations through simple spoken interaction.
Founded by Philipp Hartz and Richard Hector, the startup believes technology should adapt to people, not the other way around. The founders say the platform was developed together with older adults from the beginning, helping shape a product that focuses on usability and independence.
Artificial intelligence plays a supporting role in the background, enabling voice interaction and helping users engage with everyday activities. At the same time, Amara emphasizes human connection rather than interaction with technology itself. The company also states that it does not use monitoring dashboards or activity reports, allowing users to remain in control of how and when they communicate with family, friends and the wider world.
With around six million people over the age of 80 living in Germany, Amara sees growing demand for tools that help families stay connected across distances. Following the new investment, the Berlin startup plans to further develop its technology and build a broader digital ecosystem for older adults. Additional features, including an emergency call service and an alarm bracelet for Amara Home, are planned from early 2027.
