Berlin biotech startup MyoPax has become the first company to receive funding through B# Plus, a new financing track within Berlin's B# pre-seed fund for deep tech startups with at least one female founder.
MyoPax is a spinout from Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Max Delbrück Center (MDC). The company develops cell and gene therapies for genetic muscle diseases that currently have no cure. Its technology combines regenerative muscle stem cell therapy with precise gene repair using CRISPR/Cas technology. According to IBB Ventures, the company's first product candidate can now move into clinical testing.
The new funding complements support from the European Union's highly competitive EIC Accelerator programme and will help advance pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. These steps are intended to support the first clinical trial of the therapy and further expand the company's therapeutic platform.
Founded by Prof. Dr. Simone Spuler, Dr. Diane Seimetz and Dr. Verena Schöwel-Wolf, MyoPax is developing new treatment options for muscle defects and muscular dystrophies. The company has created a patented method for isolating and cultivating regenerative muscle stem cells, enabling the production of more than 100 million pharmaceutical-grade stem cells from only a few grams of tissue.
MyoPax is based in the Bayer Co.Lab Berlin incubator and was also among the winners of this year's Berlin Deep Tech Award. With fresh backing from IBB Ventures, the startup is taking another important step toward bringing its Berlin-developed technology to patients.
