Berlin’s Incubators Open Berlin Startup Stipendium Applications - Empowering New Founders and Expanding the City’s Innovation Pipeline

Berlin is reinforcing its role as one of Europe’s leading innovation hubs with the launch of the second funding call of the Berlin Startup Stipendium (BSS). Backed by up to €31 million in public funding from the State of Berlin and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), the program is set to support approximately 680 early‑stage founders - an expansion from the previous round.

For investors, this marks a significant signal: Berlin continues to scale its commitment to technology‑driven entrepreneurship, strengthening the pipeline of high‑quality, early‑stage deal flow and cementing the ecosystem’s long‑term competitiveness.

A Strategic Boost to Berlin’s Tech Ecosystem

According to the Senate’s announcement, the Berlin Startup Stipendium aims to help founders develop sophisticated, technology‑oriented business ideas and advance them to market readiness. The program funds founders for up to 12 months, providing a monthly stipend of up to €2,500 so that teams can fully focus on product development, validation, and early customer traction.

Delivered Through Berlin’s Leading Incubators

Nine incubators have launched the new funding cycle as of 1 March 2026, offering founders access to workspaces, labs, hardware, mentorship, coaching, and structured startup development programs.

Below is the complete list of incubators offering BSS funding, including all requested links:

BSS Incubators

The last two incubators additionally emphasize majority‑female teams to increase ecosystem diversity.

BSS Women - Expanding Opportunities Across the Entire Founder Landscape

To further strengthen Berlin’s innovation ecosystem and unlock the full breadth of entrepreneurial potential, the program includes BSS Women - a dedicated track that complements the core Startup Stipendium by broadening access, offering extended support cycles, expanded funding options, and tailored mentorship.

Why This Matters for Investors

The new BSS funding cycle arrives at a moment of renewed dynamism in Berlin’s startup ecosystem. For investors - especially those exploring pre‑seed and seed‑stage opportunities - the program helps:

1. Strengthen Deal Flow Quality

BSS startups undergo intensive coaching, mentoring, and structured incubation, increasing the likelihood of viable, investment‑ready ventures emerging from the program.

2. De‑Risk Early‑Stage Teams

Founder stipends and incubator infrastructure reduce financial and operational risk for early‑stage teams, enabling faster validation and higher-quality product development.

3. Expand Diversity in Innovation

With the BSS Women track and expanded inclusion measures, the program brings more female‑led and diverse teams to market - an increasingly important factor for LPs and investors focused on DEI metrics.

4. Reinforce Berlin’s Global Position

With a significant funding increase, BSS underlines Berlin’s role as a top-tier innovation launchpad committed to long‑term ecosystem growth.

Application Timeline

Applications are opening now and rolling out across incubators throughout March and April 2026. Each incubator runs its own application process, with deadlines varying by program.
